10 June 2009 - County Council Elections

The elections for the County Council were on Thursday 4th June 2009. The Conservative manifesto, list of candidates and other information is currently still available at www.conservatives09.com. The results, in summary and detail, may be seen at the Leicestershire County Council website. Conservatives gained five seats and Labout lost nine seats. Conservatives now have a large majority with 36 out of the 55 seats. The results in the nine divisions within the Charnwood constituency were:

10 June 2009 - European Elections

The European elections were also held on 4th June. Of the five seats available for the East Midlands region, two were won by Conservatives - Roger Helmer and Emma McClarkin - with 30% of the vote, one by Labour (17%), one by UKIP (16%) and one by the Liberal Democrats (12%). The Association and Party as a whole are on continuous standby for a General Election should one be called.

In the Borough and District Council elections on 3rd May 2007 Conservatives swept back to power in Charnwood. Three more Conservative councillors were elected from the Charnwood consituency area to bring the total to 17. On the Council as a whole Conservatives have a comfortable majority with 32 out of the 52 seats.
